Prince Kuhio #315 Guest Book - Year 2003
Dec 12-16, 2003
6th trip to Hawaii - 1st trip to Kauai. Found the Prince Kuhio on
the internet - a risk proposition for anyone with travel experience -
and was assured by the "solid gold value" rating in the 4th ed. of
"The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook", Daughty & Friedman.
Our best advice is to go for a walk (long) - check out the neighborhoods
- find where the real people go. You don't have to spend a ton of money
to have a good time.
Watch the sunset from the 3rd floor over the garage next door (Lawai Resort).
The rec room offers free access to their facilities; tennis, hot tub, exercise
equip, pool table, etc.
Walk to "baby beach" and talk to 86 year old Ms Souza. She's an old timer
with stories to tell. She'll tell all about Hawaii tradition of free
access to beaches and it doesn't cost a dime only a little time (and
tolerance for "salty" talk).
The gardens on this small lot host as many exotic palms as can be seen
anywhere. The people are friendly and don't seem overly "warn out" by
visitors so we try to live lightly; recycle, pick up litter, donate to
the humane society to which will I pay and neuter the fenal cats and return
them to their place.
Then this on thing happened ...

P.S. Love the room washer/dryer. We can pack so spaciously.
P.S.S If you go straight to the bar in the Beach House you can have
dinner w/o all the reservation fuss.

We are new to this journal but not to #315. In response to the
fourth entry back in April, we wish to inform them that this is our 4th
year in this delightful place!! Is that a sufficient endorsement?!
We had previously on three different occasions spent our time across
the road at Kuhio Shores and decided to come here. Why? 1) More
spacious 2) Superb ventilation 3) 2 baths 4) washer/dryer 5) Elegant
furnishings.
We have "been there and done that" all over this island beginning
in 1989 and call it our second home and intent to continue.
We have also connected with many local friends, particularly with a
church family. No need to improve on these kinds of amenities. This
is all we need or might desire.

Our stay in #315 has been wonderful. It is cozy and comfortable.
The trade winds blowing through the condo are lovely and far better
than air conditioning. The fully equipped kitchen is a real plus.
It has been great to be able to prepare some of our own food - fresh
fish and delicious fruits and vegetables from the farmer's market.
You could entertain yourself fully without even getting into a
vehicle. The beach is great for snorkeling and watching the
incredible sunsets. The pool is refreshing and never crowded.
Walks are a great way to enjoy the lush vegetation and beautiful
sea. You can walk to the National Tropical Botanical Gardens and
take a tour or just walk the grounds and enjoy the gift shop. Spouting
Horn is at the end of Lawai Road. You don't want to miss it. Little
open air gift shops line the road and offer reasonably priced
souvenirs. On the way back you could stop and book sea tours
with Captain Andy - not something we did. You will want to venture
out and explore the island. We thought the helicopter ride with
Air Kauai was an experience of a lifetime. The view of Waimea
Canyon is spectacular. We enjoyed breakfast at Joe's on the Green
and dinner at Hanalei Dolphin was delicious. Dinner at Keoke's
Paradise was relaxing and the fresh fish was the best I've ever
tasted. The Luau at Smith's was lots of fun. The people on the
island are happy and kind. It will be hard to leave such a
relaxed way of life. I hope we will be able to return someday.

We had an excellent trip! Kauai was our honeymoon and we will
remember it fondly. We enjoyed #315 and really liked having a kitchen.
The only thing that would have made it better is AC, but we realize
the cost/price would probably be quite high. :-) We really enjoyed
Queen's Bath, Hideaway Beach, kayaking the Waelua was amazing. Brick
Oven pizza is also amazing. We went to casa de Amici for a nice
dinner and the service was poor, good food, but too expensive for
the service you get. As for the guy several pages back, calling
this place the "hell cave", he should have never come to Kauai to
begin with, a person like that doesn't deserve a Kauai vacation!
Thanks so much!

This has been a great week! The condo couldn't have been better.
It was a great base for the daily adventures. The beach mats
and cooler were real handy. Good coffee maker and the frozen mugs
were really "cool"... It was all very comfortable, good bed and
shower. We saw the whole island, good hiking at waimea Canyon
and PoliHale, that end of the island is fabulous! The North
end is good but I'd rather hang out here, the snorkeling is the best at
Poipu. Really good lunch at Keoki's, excellent fish tacos! But the
best meals were right here: take out from the Tawueria, deli sandwiches
from Brenecke's, even kentucky fried. Nice to come back at the end
of the day, have a beer, eat, watch a little TV, and relax! We had
a great time, we'll look to stay here again.
Thanks,

What a wonderful place! The condo is great: spacious - clean-
we thought we'd miss air conditioning but the cross ventilation is
fantastic!
The best grocery shopping is at Safeway; but it's a drive. For
just a few items, go to IGA (Big Save). We loved Blue Dolphin
for a catamaran trip (Snorkeling to Napali). Fantastic restaurant:
Tide Pool at the Hyatt. Best local snorkeling; Poipu Beach. Best
close and not-too-expensive restaurant: Poipu Beach Broiler. Don't
miss Fern Grotto (a fun boat or kayak ride) and the falls nearby.
Most surprising: the quiet, peaceful surroundings of the condo.
Jack, Dorinda, and Mark - Thank You!!

P.S. Pupus at Seaview Terrace - Hyatt great!!!
Thank you - we'll be back! Honeymoons Rock!

What a fine jumping off place for discovering this beautiful island!
We tried to do, see, experience, eat and drink everything possible
in a week. Did the helicopter tour first, for an overview (so to
speak) and ended the week with the most wonderful boating/snorkeling
excursion to the Napali side. (Take a small boat, as they can go
inside the caves 'n' coves - Gregg of 'Kauai Fun' is fabulous, but not
always 'in town'. Captain Gregg Baptiste, 1-808-335-5555 or mobile
1-808-639-4646 email: kauaifuntours@hawaiian.net reservations 1-808-
635-4646).
We spent time touring the island to find the best snorkeling places -
amazed to discover pretty good fish/turtle viewing and safe tides
right across the road - to the East of Kuhio Resort and to the West
of the Beach House Restaurant. If surf is calm, Tunnels Beach on
North Shore is breathtaking!
Thanks for a well-furnished home and very adequate kitchen!

This place is a dump! Get some new curtains! You posted this place
on your website and took very "strategic" and misleading pictures...
We had a great time in Kauai... We were gone from here all day every
day... but on our drive at the end of each day to this hell cave... it
was totally depressing. "The Welfare Project."
(This message was unsigned and not dated and obviously from a person
unhappy with life or who likes to play practical jokes. It is completely
unfounded and totally inaccurate but we include it here because we
include all comments written in our guest book.)

We are happy to be here! Everything looks comfy, cozy and inviting.
Ate at Roy's the first night, very pricey but good! We drove up to
Polihale State Park, in our 4x4 Jeep Wrangler, but Caution here -
Do not attempt to go into the sands!!! We got stuck, and a native
towed us out of the beach. An expensive lesson we learned ($100).
Saw Waimea Falls and Opekaka Falls (both great scenery). Dave
snorkeled every morning between 8:30 - 9:30 (tides and waves were
low). Saw a monk seal, many different fish and sea turtle twice.
Down the road, East on left hand side of Hwy 50 we got mangos, limes,
tomatoes, and yellow plumeria lei ($5.00). Please support local
growers. Coconut grove -- very neat shops.
Apr 25/03 After Hilo Hatties the previous day, thought we would
pick up rest of our souvenirs for relatives at Wal-Mart. Good
prices on children's wear, purses, t-shirts, etc. Met Graham and
Amy from Colorado who are staying in #307 (next door). Last day
here, saw the NBG and went to dine in the evening at Gaylords.
The food was very good. Mahalo Jack & Dorinda.

What did we like best about Kauai: All we can say is everything.
From touring the Napali Coast by boat and hiking it and the Canyon
to the inner island hiking and just sitting down on the beach at
the end of the day to watch the amazing sunsets.
The space you've provided us has been wonderful. Thank you so
much.

First of all I must begin by saying that Mark and Jack have been the
most kind, wonderful, generous and all around great people/hosts.
Thank you for making us feel so welcome and at home. #315 has been
the perfect nest for us for the past several days as we have slept
for many hours more than usual each night - waking to the curtains
blowing and the sound of the ocean - as we grill our yummy fish on
the grull and meet other travelers - as we chile out in front of the
TV in the evening and most of all as a comfortable base to come home to
after great days playing in the waves, snorkeling, hiking and crashing
the Hyatt pool. :-) We are sad to leave but feel nourished and
rejuvenated and very very grateful!

To Our Guests,
Welcome to our condo. We hope you enjoy your stay on the island as much
as we do. It has been 12 years now that we have been coming to Kauai
and in particular, the South Shore.
This condo is owned by our friend, Mark, who lives on the island. We
help fix it up and try to make it a perfect place for you to spend your
vacation on Kauai. Prince Kuhio Resort is our home away from home at
least once a year. We think you will love this location and our condo.
Please let us know what you enjoyed most about Kauai and how we can make
your stay more enjoyable next time.
